A Liddle Baby Shower
 
I had the honor of hosting a baby shower for our good friends Kristi and Brian Liddle. It was a co-ed shower and it was just lovely. Our good friend Jennifer flew out from Texas to co-host it with me and we could not have not had a better time. Given that this was a week after G2E, we impressed ourselves with how quickly we were able to pull it all together! T minus 5 weeks until Baby Liddle is due to arrive!

Shelby Quotes

Shelby is constantly saying the most adorable, and sometimes hilarious things. Most of the time, I am simply wow'd by her vocabulary.

My favorte:
One day we were driving home from school and I notices Shelby had taken off her sock and shoes and lobber her foot off to the side of the car seat. I asked her what she was doing and she said "My foot in time out, not good listener."

Several days ago our neighbor's car alarm was sounding and it was quite loud. We wanted to make sure it was not one of our vehicles, so we opened the door and looked around. We spotted the culprit and closed the door. When we got back inside Shelby said "The car is bad boy. Too too noisy!"

Nearly every day I ask Shelby what her "lunch lady," Miss Sandra brings her for lunch. Yesterday she replied: Pepperoni Pita. What?! I had no idea she knew either of those words!

I think I have mentioned it before, but right before Shelby goes to sleep she tends to babble quite a bit. The other night she told me that she "Made an incident report because Matthew threw his apple in the trash. And then she called his mom."

Now, from the above it sounds like we just discipline all day, every day, but she will say the most sweet things too. Jack cam down stairs one weekend and asked for a hug. Shelby delivered the embrace and then said to him "You're beautiful Daddy."

Just Being Two

Two means busy. It means happy. It mean curious. It means mood swings. It means not a baby, but not a big girl. It means I am constantly looking for ways to keep my love bug engaged. This last weekend we went outside and did some painting. I decided to take the camera with us.

I posed the question, "What does a dinosaur say?" Shelby answered with a loud "RRrrrraawwwrr!"

Cookie Time

One of my new favorite things to do with Shelby is to decorate cookies. It's probably pretty wasteful, as the three of us have no business eating a whole batch of cookies, but it is really cute and equally fun. For every sprinkle that makes it on a cookie, five find their way to Shelby's mouth. If there is one lesson I have learned though is to think twice about eating treats that other people's kids make......lots of finger licking. I'll leave it there :)

Potty Trained!!

Depending on how you look at it, Shelby had either the fastest, or most drawn out potty training experience but either way - she did it.  By the end of July Miss Shelby Clare was rockin' the panties and never looked back.  Shelby was telling me "mama poop" when she was 14 months old and by 16 months old, was using the Elmo Potty. From there, it was hit or miss for a while. By about 23 months, I think Shelby was fully ready to be potty trained  - she would rip a wet diaper off half the time and/or just use the toilet in the first place. Additionally, every morning she held her pee and went #2 in the toilet too....but the school just wasn't ready and, honestly - I don't think it was convenient for her class (where all the other kids wore diapers), so they had us put panties over her pull ups.

Then....it was time for her to move to the next, potty trained class, and the school requested that we put her in panties and she'll "just get the idea." Did she ever. We had two days of accidents. Several accidents. That first day when I picked her up, she had soaked four outfits, sheets and a blankets, I thought "ummm I will never be able to keep up with this and she does not have enough clothes," and more importantly - Gross! I just pictured peeing all over herself and common areas all day. Awful! Day 2 was much of the same. Day 3 she had an accident before school at the house....and then magically came home dry from school! And then every day after that! The rest was history!

We are diaper free and proud. At night I still put her in a Pull Up. She is in a crib, drinks milk and/or water before bed and sleeps 11 hours - we're not there yet. Otherwise though, she had this whole potty thing nailed.

I can't lie, it's SO MUCH BETTER and we save about $60 a month on diapers. Now, we have to get over the jelly bean rewards that we initiated when we were starting this adventure.

Jammies

Of all of Shelby's things, I think I get most attached to her jammies.  The majority of my snuggles, milk, book reading and weekend time are when Shelby is cozy in her jammies. When she needs to move up to a new size, her pajamas are normally the first thing that has to change. She has big feet and a long torso, so the 1-piece jammies are not too forgiving when she outgrows them. I just purchased the last 4T of her new set, but before I pack the 3T away, I wanted one last look. And yes, she wears these cozy microfleece jammies year-round. Jack keeps it pretty chilly overnight, so it's a must! Bye bye 3T, till next time.
