What a Difference a Year Makes

Last summer when I took Shelby to the splash pad she was timid, cold and concerned. This year, she is rip, roarin' and ready to go. We are so fortunate to have lovely parks like this just a mile or two away from our house.

Chugga Chugga, Choo Choo

Jack had a great idea for family fun. Head out to Boulder City, grab breakfast at a local diner and ride the steam train! It was hot and dusty, but I think all three of us had a really fun time. Not only did we take a 30 minute ride on a real train, but Jack trains a fellow who creates mini, replica trains and offers rides on those as well. I think Shelby's mind almost exploded when she saw the mini trains and realized that she could actually ride on them.

On This Day in History

We've turned a toddler corner. On Thursday morning I put a ponytail in Shelby's hair and when I picked her up from school, it was still in her hair. On Friday morning, I put a ponytail in her hair and when I picked her up on Friday, it was still in her hair. This is HUGE! Her adorable blonde, wispy locks have gone scraggly far longer than I would like to admit, but now that she not messing with it so much, perhaps we've turned a corner. In a perfect world, I'd love to abandon the bangs all together, but I don't think we're there yet. Baby steps....crawl before we walk, before we run :)

I was so proud of her when I picked her up on Thursday and found her with the same "pony" in, I had to snap a photo!

School Pictures

My sweet girl and her school pictures. These were taken in Mid-May, so she is about 24.5 months old here. I love the way her little fingers are flexed.

Party Time

We have had a run of birthday celebrations lately and Shelby is loooooving it! The most recent was an adorable petting zoo/ranch-themed birthday for Maddy. I love Miss Maddy. Pre-Shelby, she was my favorite little munchkin. The moment we parked and Shelby saw a real goat, she lost her mind. She enjoyed every minute.

Highlights:

• Shelby: "Mommy goat is pooping. Need privacy?"
• After riding a pony named Patches she said "Thank you Patches."
• Hysterical laughter when spotting a dove resting in a bowl.

Big Girl Party

Last weekend we were invited to a Princess Spa Party where the birthday girl turned 4. Openly, I had no idea how the event would go. Would Shelby love it? Hate it? Not care? Be tired? Not sit still?

Answer: She was great! She waited her turn for each of the four stations (hair, make up and nails) and when it came time to eat, she powered down two pieces of cheese pizza. Jack captured some absolutely adorable photos from the day. I love love love the simple, sweet profile shot.

Two

This week I took Shelby in for her two year check up. The best news was that she is a healthy baby girl, chatting volumes more than most her age. The extra bonus - no immunizations at this visit! Here's how two is shaping up for my Shelby Pie:
